Southern Rhone is significantly larger compared to Northern Rhone. Ninety-five percent of all wines in Rhone come from Southern Rhone, with an average vintage totalling up to 380 million bottles per year.
Southern Rhone’s hot and dry climate, droughts, limited irrigation, and the various terroirs and microclimes produce a diverse range of wines. In general, Southern Rhone wines more alcoholic, yet lighter and fruitier than Northern Rhone wines, and warmer, richer, and spicier than Bordeaux wines.
